I am sorted . berlin
Hello, I’m Elliot. When I moved to Berlin in 2012, I didn’t know where to start.
I made mistakes which meant everything was more difficult than it should have been. Since then, I’ve gone from almost zero German language skills to being able to speak the language of bureaucracy. |
I slowly began to understand how German bureaucracy works – and more importantly, how it doesn’t work.
For most people, their first few weeks in Berlin is the most difficult, so I hope I can make that easier for you – because the quicker you get the admin sorted, the quicker you can enjoy life in Berlin! |
How I can help
Relocating or moving to Germany will involve a whole host of daunting organisation and bureaucracy.

Finding an apartmentFinding an apartment in Berlin can be a challenge. I’ll help you get all your paperwork together and work with you all the way to your successful apartment search

Registration
The Anmeldung is one of the most important things in German life. I’ll help you register at the Bürgeramt (government office) so you can get started on your Berlin life – and even offer a free Anmeldung generator to get you started
|
Free Anmeldung in English
The first challenge most people face is registering their address in Berlin – so we’ve written a free tool to help you complete your Anmeldung in English. It creates a PDF which you can print, sign, and take to the Bürgeramt with your passport or ID. For data protection, no information leaves your computer – it’s all processed on your device.
Book a coaching session
Either at my office in Berlin-Friedrichshain, or – if you’re not yet in Germany – by phone or video call. I’ll establish your needs, and explain each of the different steps you would need to take, giving concrete information about the offices you would need to go to, the websites to visit, and the order in which things need to be done. Here’s some of the things the meeting can cover:
- Finding temporary accommodation
- Getting yourself and your family registered
- Getting health insurance
- Getting your tax ID
- Opening a bank account
- Getting your apartment application pack together
- Searching and applying for long term apartments
- Finding everything you need to move into your apartment
- Finding the best deals and register for gas, electricity, internet and phone (including mobile)
- Applying for child benefits and school fee vouchers
- Finding and registering for preschool and school places
- Applying for a work permit/resident’s permit
My experience will help to smooth your move |
